Adventure Ann Arbor : Art Fair

Ann Arbor is famous for the annual Art Fair that takes place every year in Mid July since 1960

This is one of Top 5 favorite sculptures in downtown Ann Arbor ! It is located directly across the street from the University of Michigan’s Student Union on State Street. Throughout the week I will post my other favorite Public Art Works on the blog 😀

Don’t forget to stop for a moment and take a look around you …. you may just see something you didn’t before

Do It For Detroit Today

Do It For Detroit – one of my most favorite “Isms” per say.

Today I’d like to share an Article from the New York Times that was published on July 11th 2014 ” The Post-Post Apocalyptic Detroit “.

In 2011, I worked at Quicken Loans in Downtown Detroit. The HQ had recently been relocated downtown Detroit in Campus Martius right off Woodward Ave. Did you know Woodward Avenue was platted a road in 1805? or that the location of the first mile (1.6 km) of concrete roadway in the country was WOODWARD AVE ?  Later on in the summer i’ll post about the Woodward Dream Cruise.

Okay Okay — back to the article about Detroit – because what else do you have to really be doing right now !!?

A quote I took from the article to get you intrigued enough to click the link above that discusses the WORK PLACE ENVIRONMENT.  I’d truly prefer to never have to work in a closed off grey cubicle … as for the QUBE thats a whole different story… !

“Above the workers hover decorative, spacecraft-like orbs, in peach and pink and aquamarine, matching the colors of the cabinetry and carpeting. The overall atmosphere resembles “The Wolf of Wall Street” as art-directed by Dr. Seuss. “

This line made me laugh because I worked with the design team to invent this awesome area ! The group now goes by D POP check out the gallery photos from the Qube !

You spend about a third or more of your day in your office, studio, classroom, lab or what not … odds are you sit for most of it too. dPOP is what you’ve been dreaming of !  The team beats down old boring blahhhh offices & bumps them up!  If you didn’t click the link from above … Do It Now.

One of my 2014 Things To Do is DO IT FOR DETROIT ! Meaning I will go to downtown Detroit at least once a month ! Today I chose to share a bit about the D via the New York Times ...

World Cup Winners! Germany

Hofbrahaus , Munich, Germany March 2011

Cheers!! GERMANY wins the world cup for the first time since 1990 – the year I was born ! Germany is the first European team to win in South America, so this is history! There are ye’ old superstitions about what country wins in what country that hosts. People believe that now the cup will stay with a Euro team for the next few years to come!

I was in fact cheering for Germany all along, well since Spain got the cut from the World Cup 2014. I do find that my connection with Futbol aka Soccer to us Americans is deep routed from my abroad experience in Barcelona Spain.

European countries dedicate their heart & soul to their soccer teams. When I used to watch and attend games in Barcelona, the whole city transforms. Even more so than a Football Saturday in Ann Arbor! Residents of Barcelona line the streets trying to get a glimpse at the Television inside a local bar or restaurant. Shops open their doors and chairs line up  into the streets. When FC Barca wins people climb street poles , set off fire works and chant & sing throughout the streets 😀

Guess what everyone it’s 2014 and Germany is not ALL natzi’s !!  People fought me long and hard for wanting Germany to win! Honestly, pulling the Natzi card  is not a legitimate reason for people to be against Germany winning.

One of my best friends growing up was from Germany, she moved to Michigan in the 4th grade, it was so awesome when I was able to meet up with her in Germany when I visited.

For not watching it live in Brazil, I think I had the BEST alternative to watching the game. Outside in a cabana at my friend’s fabulous apartment !

I LOVED visiting Germany in 2011 , Can’t wait to go back !!
