The Name Game @ Starbucks

Image

I feel you Starbucks, you’re trying to add a personal flare on each individual drink, but about 6 out of 10 times you get it WRONG ! Typically leaving the customer more frustrated. It’s become a comical nightmare for Starbucks goers … ! ImageMy friends and the general public tend to post pictures via social networks of their cup of joe mishaps. Some of the examples are shown here on the blog – two close friends of mine with funny names ! It’s like when your a kid on vacation and you go to the key chain section at the gift shop and you can’t find the correct spelling of your name …. ! This is the adult version of that sad sad feeling.

Today in my  Give It 100 video blog, I took a trip to my local Starbucks ! It was recently renovated and this was my first time checking it out! The polar vortex has delayed my visit to the refreshed Starbucks. I love going there and have become quite close with all of the baristas, I mean if you go every day and get the same thing they are bound to remember you, especially if you’re using an interesting sudo name ;0 . My dear sister Melanie , sometimes known as Melonie at Starbucks, does not let a day go by without visiting Starbucks.  It makes her whole world to get her Ice Coffee with non fat milk and sugar free vanilla squirts … i’ve gotten her order down pat at this point. Where I’m the simple sister who orders a black ice coffee, no milk no room for it, no sweetner ( since i’m already so sweet hehe). It is funny that we ONLY get ice coffee, sun or snow ! Image

I don’t really have too many pet peeves, but one of them is when my name is spelt incorrectly. My name is Lindsey…. “EY” … people like to call me Lynsey, Lynzie, Lindzie, etc you get the point. The one that urks me the most is Lindsay !! My name is not Lind- SAY – its Lind- SEE if anything … therefore many years ago I took it upon myself to avoid the situation of having my name spelt wrong at Starbucks. This idea really came to mind back in the days of High School Lunch Breaks – when me and my crew would roll to Panera – another establishment that uses your name for an order. To give us a giggle we’d use names like Gertrude or Skyye or Margret.   It would always make us laugh and the employees had to keep a straight face, as the given name may be our true name.

Back to me at Starbucks – I’ve always used my Spanish name Carmenit is simple and not as easy to spell incorrectly. ImageAlso I LOVE my Spanish name – its been a part of me for more than half of my life at this point ! Took Spanish in school from 3rd grade until my Sophomore year of College …. then I lived in Spain where it was much easier to go by Carmen than Lindsey! My Yoga teacher in Spain once crossed her self and said “ iy dios mio! ” aka OMG because she could not fathom that my name was Lindsey – don’t really get that but it was funny! So Yes, I part time go by Carmen….! and it is even funnier at my local Starbucks because they greet me each day as Hi CARMEN !

adios ❤

Meatless Monday : the first step

So as you may or may not have heard from my Give It 100 video blog post that today I will be touching on Meatless Monday! So it is very simple … you just commit to not eating meat on Mondays ! Why Monday? well the organization that invented this a DECADE AGO found that people are motivated at the beginning of the week.  The movement obviously came up with the catchy title and went from there….  laugh out loud… but why not just start your week off meat free. EVEN OPRAH has dedicated her life and the lives of her employees to meatless Monday. The chef and crew at the OWN network prepare all of the Monday meals with out meat ! Schools across the nation and some international countries have caught on as well !

In the video I’m eating my lunch, a Cesar salad sans chicken. The movement for Meatless Monday is pledging to make the world a little bit better of a place & give your body a better life as well ! By no means would I swear off meat forever !!!! One day a week could make all the difference in your overall wellness & health.

I am going to include 2 recipes per week that you may want to try out in your own kitchen !

Join me on my journey on Meatless Mondays ! 😀

To learn a little bit more on how this benefits your health & the environment check out the information below …I have taken this directly from the website www.meatlessmonday.com

Health Benefits

  • LIMIT CANCER RISK: Hundreds of studies suggest that diets high in fruits and vegetables may reduce cancer risk. Both red and processed meat consumption are associated with colon cancer.
  • REDUCE HEART DISEASE: Recent data from a Harvard University study found that replacing saturated fat-rich foods (for example, meat and full fat dairy) with foods that are rich in polyunsaturated fat (for example, vegetable oils, nuts and seeds) reduces the risk of heart disease by 19%
  • FIGHT DIABETES: Research suggests that higher consumption of red and processed meat increase the risk of type 2 diabetes.
  • CURB OBESITY: People on low-meat or vegetarian diets have significantly lower body weights and body mass indices. A recent study from Imperial College London also found that reducing overall meat consumption can prevent long-term weight gain.
  • LIVE LONGER: Red and processed meat consumption is associated with increases in total mortality, cancer mortality and cardiovascular disease mortality.
  • IMPROVE YOUR DIET. Consuming beans or peas results in higher intakes of fiber, protein, folate, zinc, iron and magnesium with lower intakes of saturated fat and total fat.

Environmental Benefits

  • REDUCE YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT. The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization estimates the meat industry generates nearly one-fifth of the man-made greenhouse gas emissions that are accelerating climate change worldwide . . . far more than transportation. And annual worldwide demand for meat continues to grow. Reining in meat consumption once a week can help slow this trend.
  • MINIMIZE WATER USAGE. The water needs of livestock are tremendous, far above those of vegetables or grains. An estimated 1,800 to 2,500 gallons of water go into a single pound of beef. Soy tofu produced in California requires 220 gallons of water per pound.
  • HELP REDUCE FOSSIL FUEL DEPENDENCE. On average, about 40 calories of fossil fuel energy go into every calorie of feed lot beef in the U.S. Compare this to the 2.2 calories of fossil fuel energy needed to produce one calorie of plant-based protein. Moderating meat consumption is a great way to cut fossil fuel demand. “

Recipe 1 : Avocado Toast

Image

This is a simple and yummy breakfast food, Avocado Toast ! I try to use Ancient Grain ( ie. with spelt) , Whole Grain, or Seeduction Bread ( Found at your local Whole Foods) as the base for this breakfast delight ! It is important that you know what you are putting into your body and how it will affect you. the whole point of meatless Monday is to be more aware of how the foods you eat effect yourself and the environment! So YES go with a bread that will benefit you !

* sometimes as a special treat I will add White Truffle Oil *

Toast your bread & pick out a fabulous ripe avocado spread it onto the bread & sprinkle Red Pepper Chili Flakes ! sometimes I will also add a little bit of fresh ground pepper as well for a kick !

Love & Fashion: Red Roses @} ——–

ImageAs you may have heard if you are following my Give It 100 video diaries …. today I am going to be sharing about ROSES , RED ROSES. Pictured to the left you can see me smiling with a dozen of red roses sent to me for Valentine’s Day! I was so excited of course to have these with me at my desk ( two days prior to vday) they smell lovely and look pretty like me too !! Rocking a University of Michigan Long sleeve shirt to show some spirit for today’s Basketball Game vs Wisconsin !! Go BLUE !!

I have done a little shopping that has been highly influenced by the spirit of red roses & Valentines Day. My standard outfits are more classic and consist of black on black – because that’s what looks hot & sheik ! All Black Everythangggg !!  Trying to change it up a bit and be in the holiday spirit I have bought a few items with roses on them !

I purchased a really cute mini-skirt that I will have to post the photo later on … when I wear it in Miami next week 😀 !! But for now i’ll show my snow bunny side , since I do happen to be living in Michigan. Dressing Room Shot

Photo’d to the right you can see me trying on this festive beanie hat with my new Cell Phone Case for my SAMSUNG S4 !! Additionally, you can see the manicure I got for Vday with OPI “I’ve Got A Date To Knight” – the pink nails mentioned in the previous blog post.

I’m Obsessedt with HELLO KITTY – my like turned into love in 2011 when I studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain (which I commonly refer to as) BarSHAWLona…. I noticed that Hello Kitty was a familiar face in each of the countries that I traveled too ! She was ubiquitous in Europe !! Hello Kitty is Global Sensation ! If you want to hear more about my feelings on Hello Kitty keep an eye out for my research paper of her to be posted on the blog.Motivation Rose Beanie

FUN FACT: According to the National Retail Federation, 224 million roses are grown for Valentine’s Day, and $1.9 billion is spent on flowers in general. CRAZY !!

Valentines Day 2014

Valentines Day 2014 had a bit more love than years past … I have been in a Monogamous Relationship for quite some time now ! Outside of receiving beautiful gifts and fun treats from Parents & Grandparents , I was blessed with gifts from my monogamous partner ! I searched far and wide out on the world wide web for fun & fabulous ideas to send my boo. One cute card idea I learned from Pintrest is posted here … it’s a very simple DIY with items you probably have around your household or apartment ! I have just altered my Pintrest account to a business page , I am hoping that more people will follow my boards as I am striving in the next 100 days to apply for BlogHer.com.

Side note on my history with blogging – I have been causally blogging about my life, experiences, and school work since 2004. Crazy to think I have been blogging for a decade! In honor of that I am going to try and become more professional with my social networks & take my hobby to the next level. I have come across a fabulous network BlogHer.com that is solely for Women Bloggers  ( and maybe trans also hehe) that assists in basically making you famous. One thing that I have lacked in my blogging is consistancy …. ! To apply to be apart of the BlogHer.com network & officially published through their site is to have blogged for at least once a week for the past 90 days.  Unfortunately my blogging is so spotty – as I just blog when something pops into my head that I want to share and am able to get to a computer ( or now my fabulous new SamsungS4 !! ) and log onto my wordpress and publish. To try and aid my dreams of being a professional personal social media maven I have joined the Give It 100 network to help remind me to blog !! & to hold me accountable to doing so ! Even though I do not foresee myself blogging every single day for 100 days … i’m going to give it a shot ! Best case I’ll blog everyday and look cute doing it !! I will be sharing funny things, songs , articles and news about Detroit, things happening to a 23 year old young professional … that is until i turn 24 ! So stay tuned enjoy , smile and giggle with me along the way !!

One thing about me is that no matter what the situation or what life tosses my way … YOU WILL SEE ME WITH MY NAILS DONE !! There is no doubt in  my mind that if I ever had only $10 to my name … the dough would go to a Manicure. I think it is very important to have a manicure for multiple reasons. A) I was blessed with beautiful nail beds, why not take advantage and always have them be fab !! B) One of the first things you do when you meet someone, is what? SHAKE THEIR HAND ! Yes – your nails are a part of your hand, the prettiest part  – make it memorable. C) Looking at my typically pink nails always makes me smile ! Nail Polish can brighten your day … Right now i’m rocking OPI “I’ve Got a Date To Knight “ – its a hot pink definitely towards a Barbie Pink …!

I wish I could say the nails photographed in the picture were mine, but they are not… maybe next year i’ll find an Asian who can do this for me 😀 !

Join me on my journey !! Much Love ❤ Linz
